For years, Koffi, now in his thirties, has been living in Belgium. He returns to his home in the Republic of Congo to introduce his white fiancée, Alice, who is pregnant with twins, to his family. Seen as a foreigner and a traitor, Koffi has also come to pay the dowry to his father, but the latter has been missing for days, having disappeared in the mine where he works. Meanwhile, his mother, sisters, and uncles greet Koffi with suspicion and distrust, accusing him of being possessed by the devil after a minor accident followed by a sacred ceremony. Koffi flees his family with plans to return to Europe, but while waiting for a flight, he enlists the help of one of his sisters—ostracized for being different—to find his father and, ideally, confront his past and future.
Da anni emigrato in Belgio, il trentenne Koffi ritorna a casa sua, nella Repubblica del Congo, per presentare alla famiglia la fidanzata bianca Alice, incinta di due gemelli. Considerato uno straniero e un traditore, Koffi è venuto anche per pagare la dote al padre, ma questi è da giorni irreperibile, scomparso nella miniera in cui lavora. La madre, le sorelle e gli zii, invece, accolgono Koffi con sospetto e diffidenza, accusandolo di essere posseduto dal demonio dopo un piccolo incidente e una successiva cerimonia sacra. Koffi fugge dalla famiglia con l'idea di tornare in Europa e in attesa di un volo disponibile si fa aiutare da una delle sorelle, rinnegata perché diversa dalle altre, a ritrovare il padre e idealmente a confrontarsi con il suo passato e il suo futuro.
